Argentine & Spanish Wine Tasting
Thursday, March 30th
4-6 pm, $20
With Special Guest, Ricardo Ponce of Alternative Wines

Fun fact:  The root of Argentinian wine stems back 500 years! The Spanish brought wine to Argentina in 1556 throughout the Mendoza and San Juan regions.

NV Azimut Rosat Brut Nature Cava, Spain $19.99
Fun way to start the evening. Bone-dry, super refreshing, organically produced bubbly full of fresh berry and citrus notes. Made in a very natural style. Enjoy!

Owned by the Suriol family, Cellers de Can Suriol del Castell is known for making wines and vintage Cava with personality in the organic wine-making tradition. All of their wines are estate bottled.

The Can Suriol vineyards and winery are situated in Alt Penedes, Province of Barcelona, Catalunya. This region is justifiably famous for producing fine wines and cava. The cultivation of the Can Suriol vineyards is done by 100% organic methods.  Traditional fermentation with indigenous yeasts and bacteria, zero dosage. Aged a minimum of 10 months in the bottle, disgorged at the time of order.

Bodegas Pinoso "Zillamina White", Spain $17.99
Grapes: Macabeo & Airén
Brilliant, pale-straw color with aromas of apple and citrus fruits on the nose. Refreshing, lively, and fruity with a clean lip-smackingly citrusy finish. Ideally suited to vegetable rice, white fish, white meat, or lovely by itself.
Bodegas Pinoso is a Spanish cooperative born in 1932 that gradually became one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the region. The Pinoso vines grow at a relatively high altitude (600m above sea level) in the hot and dry continental climate influenced by the closeness of the Mediterranean Sea.

Los Haroldos Reserva Chardonnay, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina $25.99
With a winning combination of cool weather, high elevation and well-draining alluvial soils, it is no surprise that Mendoza’s Uco Valley is one of the most exciting up-and-coming wine regions in Argentina. Healthy, easy-to-manage vines produce low yields of high-quality fruit, which in turn create flavorful, full-bodied wines with generous acidity.
This Chardonnay is unctuous, complex and persistent, suitable alcohol-acidity balance; round and honeyed.

Can Suriol Mataro, Penedes, Spain $25.99

Grapes: Monastrell (also known as Mataró, hence the name)

Making of: Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and maceration for 10 days. After pressing, the wine went through spontaneous malolactic fermentation in 500-liter chestnut barrels, where it spent a total of ~8 months. Bottled without filtration or sulfur addition.

Personality: untamed! Bursting with youthful dark fruit, pleasantly round body, and long spicy aftertaste. Perfect for all your BBQs, great aging potential.

Azimut Negre Penedès, Spain $19.99
The Azimut Negre is a blend of 40% Ull de Liebre (tempranillo), 20% garnatxa, 20% monastrell, 10% syrah, and 10% samsó (carignan), from a 5 ha vineyard situated at 250 meters elevation. Grapes are vinified in 15,000-liter stainless steel tanks for 20 days, using only indigenous yeasts. The wine then goes into concrete tanks for 8-15 months, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and battonage for 3 months. It is unfined and filtered with a soft paper filter to remove sediment, with a tiny amount of sulfur added at bottling. The result is a medium-bodied mouthful of lip-smacking black cherry, blackcurrant, and mulberry, with hints of tobacco leaf, humidor, and smoldering campfire. Refreshing acidity and well-integrated tannins cleanse the palate after every sip. This is a versatile partner to pair with a wide variety of foods, and one of our favorite new values to boot! Organically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.

Bodega Calle "Dharma" Reserva Red, Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina $21.99

Los Haroldos Reserva Malbec, Argentina $25.99
Considered one of the best "under the radar" wineries in Argentina, Los Haroldos is the Reserve Malbec of the Falasco family. Originally from Italy, the Falasco's came to Argentina at the turn of the 20th century, and have been producing some of the best wines from the Uco Valley since 1939. Their 2017 Reserva is a blend of three different high elevation vineyards in La Consulta, Vista Flores, and Altamira. Three of the best places in the world to make a rich, full-bodied Malbec. Rated 91 points from James Suckling, the Reserve Malbec has also received a Gold Medal from the Decanter World Wine Awards. Filled with dark fruit aromas of black cherry and milk chocolate, the wine was aged 12 months in French oak (35% new).

2019 Dandi Sauvignon Blanc, Santa Barbara County, California
Launched in 2018, Dandi Wines is a collaboration between long-time Liquid Farm winemaker, James Sparks, and Jeff Nelson. This "second label" provides the Liquid Farm team an opportunity to work with different varietals from different regions around the world.

The finished wine is more reminiscent of a Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire Valley, with notes of Meyer lemon, honeycrisp apple, and wet river rocks. The use of oak contributes to the weight and roundness of the wine. Pair this with salmon, sole piccata, or tagine chicken.

2020 Dandi Mourvedre "Vogelzang Vineyard", Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara, California

2018 Dandi Syrah, Central Coast, California
This wine is also sourced from the Lieff Ranch Vineyard in southern SLO county. Barrel fermented in neutral oak and aged for approximately 16 months, with a small portion in new French oak for a brief time. We did not want to stray from our elegant style, so the wine is light on its feet with a refreshing vein of acidity throughout the palate.

White pepper, blue fruit, and eucalyptus are all on display here and the wine reminds us of some of our favorite Cote du Rhones. Pair this wine with game meats, Asian dishes with pronounced "umami", or leg of lamb.

2021 Fullerton Three Otters Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon
Fullerton Three Otters Pinot Noir is made from 100% Pinot Noir - 7-40 years old

This Willamette Valley blend hails mainly from three different vineyards in the north, east, and south of the Willamette Valley, with a smaering from five of Fullerton's other sites. The soils of the vineyards represent the breadth and diversity of the Willamee Valley with both sedimentary- and volcanic-based soils.

Blueberry and ripe strawberry with a dash of baker’s spice, bramble, and herbs. The palate carries the fruit forward elegantly with balanced tannins following. Intriguing complexity and depth—an impressive wine for all.

2018 Fullerton Five Faces Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon
33% whole clusters, and 30% of the wine went through an extended maceration. The wine was aged for 11 months in 19% new French oak. Unfined.

Mineral-driven with cherry, blackcap raspberry, lingonberry, cassis, spiced plum-skin, incense, crushed rock, fresh moss, and violet. The palate is soft and friendly with gentle tannins that are backed by balanced acidity. Cherry, strawberry, and cranberry are accompanied by rosehip, cinnamon, cardamom, orange peel, coffee bean, forest floor, chamomile, and black tea on the palate.

Fullerton Wines explores the rich and varied AVAs of Oregon by expressing the distinct personality of each vineyard and vintage in the bottle. Founded in the Fullerton family garage in 2011, the winery is a deeply personal family collaboration. Winemaker Alex Fullerton first got into the industry when his father Eric suggested the career path while wine tasting in the Willamette Valley after Alex had just graduated from the University of Oregon in 2010. That conversation led to Alex having a harvest internship with Penner Ash Wine Cellars which started the very next day. When making their first vintage in 2011, Alex and Eric made a few barrels of Pinot Noir in a garage. Despite the challenging vintage, the wine impressed and Fullerton Wines was born.

2019 Martin Woods "Jesse James Vineyard" Pinot Noir, Eiola-Amity Hills, Willamette Valley, Oregon
Mature vines at Jesse James Vineyard are deeply-rooted in rocky, volcanic soil at upper elevation in the Eola-Amity Hills.  Sustainable farming practices are mindfully complemented by dry-farming, without irrigation, allows the grapes to reflect the growing season.  2016 harvest conditions were ideal, and vinification proceeded slowly with native yeasts. The wine was aged in cooperage locally-produced from Oregon oak (Quercus garryana), native to the Willamette Valley. Soulfully aromatic with complex structure - rich red fruit, spice and forest floor, broad weight with fine tannins and elegant acidity - this long-aging Pinot Noir displays a distinct sense of place and was artisanally-produced in limited quantity with uncompromising expectations of quality. UNFINED / UNFILTERED 200 cases produced
