There's never much of this and less than usual in the frost-impacted 2021 harvest, so don't delay in grabbing your share. It's 100% Pinot Noir from two different Sancerre terroirs, both Caillottes and Kimmeridgian soils. The whole bunches are lightly pressed, bringing out an intense pink color with darker red highlights. The flavors are bold, focusing on dark cherry and wild red berry fruit with a nicely mineral edge and just a tiny touch of freshening tannins. The balance of fruit, acidity, texture and minerality is pretty much perfect. Delicious right now, it will actually be better by fall and delight and refresh through 2024 or so.

Moretto’s Lambrusco is the perfect pizza wine. Exuberantly frothy, this fizzy red smells so irresistibly fresh and fruity that I could fill a pool with it and splash around in utter bliss—provided there are also little rafts with floating pizzas. Crisp acid plus a brisk, earthy tannin make for an ultra-pure, clean finish that pops. Serve it cool and gulp away—with its 11.5% alcohol, there is no reason to hold back.

2021 Joguet Chinon Rose, Loire Valley, France $24.99
The second rosé ever Kermit imported—Tempier’s Bandol beat it by a few months back in 1978—this cuvée from Charles Joguet is among the quintessential wines of the KLWM portfolio. 2016 Catherine Le Goeuil Cairanne, RHone Valley, France $29.99
You would be forgiven for not being able to place Cairanne on a map. Twenty miles north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, this village is among the underrated of the southern Rhône, and it didn’t receive AOC status until the 2016 vintage! And what a vintage to commemorate: 2016 is widely regarded as an incredible year in the Rhône Valley.
If you are looking for great values, look where no one else is looking.” Made from impeccable Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Counoise grapes—organically farmed and kept dry by the mistral—grown in sandy molasse, clay, and limestone, this Cairanne bears all of the southern Rhône notes we love: black cherries, garrigue, olives, and stones. It will pair magically with braised oxtails or grilled lamb chops.
2020 Clos La Coutale Cahors, France $18.99
It happens to be one of only a handful of reds we import from southwest France, and the only one that’s made from Côt, the variety better known as Malbec. Its meatiness and rustic aromas of coffee and ripe black fruit give this rouge a rugged appeal. It tells the story of a less-traveled side of the country, where cliffs are stacked with hefty limestone and there’s a whiff of wild in the air. And while this wine is a great value for drinking now, you could also consider it an investment; it has the potential to age beautifully over the next few years in the unlikely chance you forget you have it on hand.
