NV Stephane Coquillette Champagne (Carte D`Or) 1er Cru, Champagne, France $62.99
Stéphane Coquillette represents the fourth generation of his family to grow and produce wine in the Champagne region. His grandmother was in fact the first to bottle Champagne in the Chouilly village, with her wines being showcased at a fair in Paris in 1928 under the Pierre Coquillette label. His grandmother also created the Saint-Chamant label, which until recently was run by Stéphane’s father, Christian, who unfortunately passed away in early 2020. Stéphane now oversees both his label and the family brand.
A cuvée blend produced from fruit from all the villages he owns parcels in and is produced with a single years harvest, although not labeled as a vintage bottling. The blend is typically 2/3 Pinot Noir from his holdings in Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, 1/3 Chardonnay from his holdings in Chouilly & Cuis.
2021 Tour Des Gendres Petillant Naturel, France $25.99
A blend of Sauvignon Blanc with Chenin Blanc, this is a light, poised and friendly wine. It has a touch of honey filled out by green fruits and kiwi flavors. Drink this attractive wine now. ROGER VOSS
NV Trenel Cassis De Bourgogne, Burgundy, France $30.99
This Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne owes its exceptional quality to two essential factors: the quality of the fruits and the particular uniqueness of its terroir.
The blackcurrant berries come exclusively from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits area. They are grown in the village of Concoeur, only two kilometers away from Vosne-Romanée, on clay-limestone soils at 300 m to 400 m above sea level.
This Crème de Cassis de Bourgogne is an attractive bright purple color with violet tints. The nose is complex and highly concentrated, with a bouquet of blackcurrant and licorice aromas mingled with undergrowth notes.
The attack is rich on the palate, then the freshness of blackcurrant takes its place and creates a balance and a pleasant harmony to this liqueur. The finish is extremely long.
2020 Licence Iv Grenache Cotes-Du-Rhone, Rhone Valley, France $22.99
85% Grenache, 15% Syrah
Licence IV Rouge is Grenache, grown in the coldest corner of the Southern Rhône. Born cool, so to speak, like a Jazz tune or a beat poem written in black cherry-scented letters. Licence IV Rouge is ready for every moment: you, turtlenecked in the corner, swirling your glass of wine like a yo-yo master, nonchalantly wafting aromas of licorice and thyme with a smile. Licence IV Rouge doesn’t care what time you arrive. What matters, mon ami, is that you’ve finally made it.
2019 Chateau Du Cedre Blandine Le Blanc, Gascogne, France $14.99
A blend of Colombard and Ugni Blanc from Southwest France, this pale lemon wine reveals an herbal bouquet and focused grapefruit, lemon, and green apple flavors. Acidity soars through the light, fruity palate, providing freshness and a lively, vibrant character.
2020 Louis Metaireau Muscadet Black Label Sur Lie, Loire Valley, France $22.99
This wine with its complex aromatic, floral and mineral notes, is a nice accompanying Muscadet for fish terrines, white meats and cold cuts.
Louis Métaireau — along with his band of vignerons d’art, as his like-minded group of producers were known — was instrumental in restoring the reputation of the Muscadet appellation in the middle of the 20th century. It was he who first began leaving his wines "sur lie" (on their fine lees) through the winter. Since taking over for her father, Marie-Luce Métaireau and her husband, Jean-François Guilbaud, have assembled one of the most prized vineyard sites in all of Muscadet, the Grand Mouton vineyard; the vines range from thirty years of age to a parcel planted in 1937. The “Carte Noire” (black label), made from vines in the middle of the age range, is classic Muscadet, with great depth and complexity.
2020 Terres Blonde Gamay, Loire Valley, France $15.99
Varietal: Heirloom Gamay - Gamay de Bouze
Jean-Sebastien Marionnet makes incredible wines at his domaine and is now making this vibrant Gamay from sourced fruit from the Touraine. The fruit was hand-harvested and the liveliness of this red wine can be attributed to the carbonic maceration that was used to ferment this wine. Unoaked and a delightful red to make your house wine. The wine has a floral nose followed by a palate of crunchy red berries, minerals, and tangy acidity, and the finish is crisp and dry with soft tannins and a touch of earthiness.
