California Wine Tasting

New arrivals from Stolpman Wines and Limited Release Lucky Rock!

2022 Stolpman So Fresh Love You Bunches Orange, California $23.99
Vacation in a bottle! Lychee, orange blossom, Thai basil, Apricot, and Grapefruit.  The wine keeps going with layer on layer of waves washing over the palate bringing with them touches of tangerine, tarragon, and firm crunchy peach.
In our third edition of Love You Bunches Orange, we’ve further refined our varietal blend to deliver the most delicious Orange yet.  Pinot Gris for depth and color co-fermented with tropical Orange Muscat.  In 2022 we are thrilled to add the traditional orange wine grape, Tocai Fruilano for more texture and brightness.  Gewurztraminer adds further color and more exotic tropical notes.

Pressing the whole grapes after only 7 days allows the native fermentation to finish as liquid only, removed from the skins.  This delicate extraction ensures a clean, balanced “fresh” orange wine.  We then capture this fresh profile by bottling early, in mid-January.

2022 Stolpman So Fresh GGT Red, California $30.99
Grenache, Gamay, Trousseau

Cherry Cherry Cherry - spanning from hard candy to bright Rainier - into bright, banging Pomegranate.  Savory Trousseau tea leaves back the pure red fruit and Gamay lends depth and crunch.  A citrus spray layer of energy rides above the fruit profile and bonds the three varietals under its high-toned webbing.  Youthful tartness and a tannin back-board structure the wine to create something more serious than just a delicious day-time masher.
In 2020, we decided to isolate one Grenache carbonic tank, and it was indeed as pure and delicious as we imagined.  But almost too so!  To lend nuance and complexity, we added a dollop of Gamay and Trousseau as these light bodied varietals wouldn’t add weight to the feathery, chill-able profile.

2022 Stolpman So Fresh Crunchie Roastie, California $28.99
In the glass, black with glimmering red sparks.  On the nose, a swirling fruit punch vortex with layered olive and black fruit in every twist and turn.  In the mouth, a marriage of pop and depth like your favorite “guilty pleasure” album.
Crunchy Roastie has become a seriously delicious Featherweight version relative to Stolpman’s classic Middleweight and Heavyweight macerated Syrah cuvees.  By taking such a delicate touch to the intensity of Santa Barbara County, we can deliver a Syrah in the same weight class as our favorite Northern Rhone wineries.

2021 Stolpman Love You Bunches Carbonic Sangiovese, Santa Barbara, California $24.99
Serve cold! 2021 strikes a wonderful balance between the fleshier, warmer 2020 vintage and the more angular, high-toned 2018 and 2019 versions. Riper red berry fruit sings over the tart finish resulting in a pleasurable, quenching crunch. A perfected adult version of Sour Patch Kids candy. A floaty fleshiness develops by the second glass - which, by the way, arrives quickly - with some mellowing watermelon notes on the mid-palate.

2021 Stolpman La Cuadrilla Red Blend, California $22.99
75% Syrah / 15% Grenache / 10% Sangiovese
2021 Cuadrilla opens up with dark ripe plum highlighted with bright fresh red berries.  Deep and supple with fine chalky tannins already married with a smooth, polished texture.  An alluring otherness of wet stones, mint, and mocha prevail from the nose through the mouth captivating the senses beyond just the magnificently pleasurable profile.
Ruben started a training program in which he gave one Cuadra - a small vineyard block - to his team, so they would take responsibility for their land.  Each crew member became the farmer rather than just the worker.  A few years later, once the crew had independently mastered vineyard management, Ruben revealed his grand experiment to Mr. Stolpman.  Thrilled, Tom declared that all of the wine made from the crew’s training Cuadra would be given to the team members for their own consumption.  Having the self-titled wine at the dinner table served as both a source of pride and a chance to appreciate fine wine, the fruits of the crew’s labor!

2021 Lucky Rock Bennett VIneyard Malbec, California $39.99
Barrel aged for 10 months in French oak barrels of which 30% were once filled and 70% were neutral - limiting the influence of oak aromas on the wine.

Huzzah! Our yearly, limited-release, one-of-a-kind, never to be produced from the same vineyard or in the same way again wine has a new look. At the core, this series is about the thrill of prospecting and hitting paydirt while keeping the joys of winemaking alive. We've kicked up the aesthetic on this already fun project by partnering with renowned tattoo artists Frankie "DeathCloak" Caraccioli and Paul Dobleman, who collaborated on this year's label - Death and a Lady.
