NV JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset, Crémant de Bourgogne Brut N°69 Rosé, Burgundy, France $32.99
For Jean-Charles Boisset, No 69 Sparkling Rosé is not a dainty pink thing. It's a FLAMBOYANT, profound mouthful of serious bubbles. The VIBRANT crispness of No 69 is thirst quenching. Yet the flavors are evocative of Pinot Noir and are beautifully SENSUAL.
Jean-Charles was born in 1969, the year that mankind went to the moon. As such, 69 represents unlimited expression, freedom, creativity, intellectual revolution, artistry, and refinement. Of course, 69 is also a Rosé Brut based exclusively on Pinot Noir; a Rosé that entwines masculinity and femininity.
2021 J. Moreau & Fils, Chablis, Burgundy, France $32.99
Since 1814, J. Moreau & Fils has been challenging the terroir of Chablis to bring out an exceptional expression of the Chardonnay grape; the only varietal grown here.
A clean, mineral and perfumed nose, with flinty flavors of grapefruit. On the palate, fresh, crisp, elegant and mineral with flavors of citrus peel.
2020 Mommessin Les Grandes Mises Saint-Amour, Beaujolais, France $25.99
We all recognise that this most Northern Cru bears a name which is gentle to the ear and to the heart. It is the wine of poets and lovers. If it did not exist, life would be a little less charming. The village of Saint Amour gives its name to this wine. Before that, a long time ago during Gallo-Roman times, a centurion named Amor belonging to the Thébaine Legion, stationed in the Valais region of Switzerland and famous for his Christian faith suffered martyrdom. In all evidence, the ways of lovers, with their pleasures and sorrows, are rarely easy. Today the wine of Saint Amour shows two faces, according to the soil composition and indeed the vinification technique.
Our Beaujolais’ aromatic palette is a broad one, ranging from raspberry liqueur, ripe Burlat cherries in syrup, smooth crème de cassis and wild blueberry to floral notes of violet, iris and peony, liquorice and dark chocolate. Mouth-filling despite high levels of acidity in some cases. The wines are supple, round and smooth, well-structured with supple, silky tannins. An elegant vintage in the making.’
2019 Domaine Manoir du Carra Moulin-à-Vent, Beaujolais, France $28.99
Domaine Manoir du Carra is located in the small town of Denice, south of Burgundy and in the heart of the Beaujolais area. The property dates back to 1850 and has been bequeathed from father to son for several generations. It is now owned by Jean-Noël Sambardier and his wife.
Nice ruby color, subtle small red fruits aromas. Full bodied with a nice attack on the palate. An elegant wine which leaves long lasting aromas. This wine can easily be kept up to 4 or 5 years, it will then reveal “pinot style” aromas.
2021 Jean Arthaud Morgon Côte du Py, Beaujolais, France $28.99
In the heart of the Crus area of Beaujolais, wines of “Morgon” AOC are often described as best representing the character of their terroir. The appellation is dominated by a hill called Mont du Py. Its soil of decomposed schist gives typical aromas to the wines. French winemakers usually describe this particularity in a verb: “morgonner”, be like a Morgon. This Morgon Côte du Py is produced on this hill peaking at 300m above sea-level. The selected parcels are very sunny, on south-oriented steep slopes.
Deep ruby in color, this wine offers a complex nose, mineral and fruity. It mingles aromas of ripe raspberry, black and morello cherries with hints of flint, ink, clove and black pepper. The highly vibrant palate has a sound underlying structure which is powerful yet velvety, thanks to tannins which, despite mellowing, are still very perceptible. This is a stylish wine bearing the hallmarks of its terroir with a long and spicy finish.
This wine has also a very good ageing potential and will start to develop some secondary aromas after 5 or 6 years if kept properly in a wine cellar.
2020 Château de Pierreux Brouilly, Beaujolais, Fance $22.99
With a beautiful intense purple color, this Brouilly opens with floral notes, black fruits and dark chocolate. The palate is dense, fleshy and elegant with hints of toffee and peonies. The tannins are smooth and silky. You'll also find the mineral touch that characterizes the wines of Pierreux.
Nestled at the foot of Mont Brouilly, Château de Pierreux is one of the most beautiful residences in the region. Several centuries of history have shaped this ancient 13th-century fortified house of which two towers still stand today. The castle was renovated several times over the centuries. Its vaulted cellars date back to the 17th century while the current building was erected in the 19th century. The 2020 Chateau de Pierreux Reserve du Chateau Monopole Brouilly is a spectacular example. All vines are over 40 years of age and high density planting results in a wine with spectacular natural concentration.
