2016 Immich-Batterieberg "Jour Fixe" Riesling Brut Nature, Mosel, Germany $52.99
Jour Fixe is a blend of (mostly) ungrafted, single-post trained, 70 year old-vine Riesling sourced from a high parcel in Ellergrub, the western part of Zollturm, and a steep portion of the Oberemmeler Altenberg in the Saar valley. Zero-dosage, almost sulfur free,s as the base wine only had a small amount added in the cellar. Spontaneous fermentation occurred in barrel and the wine finished its journey via the méthode Champenoise, with second fermentation in the bottle. after 24 months on the lees.
The finished Sekt is nicely intense with mouthcoating mousse on the palate, yet there is a really fine delicately racy acidity lifting up the aromatics and giving this overall richer styled Sekt much vibrancy and focus right into the beautiful finish. Notably Chenin-like in many ways

Grapes: 70% Sauvignon Blanc 30% Chardonnay
Farming: Organic (certified). Age of vines: 10 to 25 years old
The grapes here come from the estate's youngest vines and are a mix of the three terroirs Hervé cultivates: sand and flint, clay and silex and deep silt.

After malolactic fermentation, a racking is performed and 1 gram of S02 is added per hectoliter. From a very old parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon planted by Evelyne's aunt because her doctor told her she was drinking too much white wine! For the record, she lived to 101.
The wine takes its name from the rare and beneficial rosalia alpina beetle found in the beech and willow trees on the Closel property.
Appellation: Vin de France
Winemaking: Carbonic maceration of 10 days. Fermentation and aging in fiberglass vats.

2021 La Stoppa Vino Rosso TREBBIOLO, Emilia-Romagna, Italy $27.99
The 32 hectare La Stoppa estate is situated in the province of Piacenza in the Emilia-Romagna region of northen Italy and has been run by Elena Pantaeoni since the early 1990's.
The wines are aged in old French and Slavonian oak. The Trebbiolo Rosso (named after the valley where the estate is located) is a blend of 60% Barbera and 40% Bonarda and in this instance is unoaked. Fresh and fruity, this works well with cold meats.
Exhibiting a vibrant red color, this wine offers aromas of red fruits, floral notes, and a touch of earthiness. The palate is medium-bodied and fruity, with flavors of raspberry, cherry, and a hint of herbal undertones. It has a lively acidity and a fresh finish.
2011 La Stoppa IGT Emilia Camporomano [Barbera], Emilia-Romagna, Italy $37.99
The nose is rich display of crushed black cherries with brown spices, sweet violets, sage and shavings of old cedar. Notes of ripe red berries complemented by notes of blood orange and salty minerals with a brisk acidity. Tobacco, smoked meats and inner earth tones resonate throughout the long and lightly structured finale. The Camporomano is a testament to what the Emilia region can do with Barbera when it’s given the spotlight in the vineyards and cellars. This is seriously worth seeking out.
