"We produce classically styled, terroir-driven wines which reflect the unique heritage and character of our site.  We came to our property in 1955 – originally a 160 acre homestead, the ranch has a grape-growing history dating back to 1878.  During the decades of our stewardship, four generations of Snowdens have been privileged to walk the woods and vineyards of this lovely and secluded place.

Situated on the eastern slopes of the Napa Valley, the Snowden Ranch lies just east of the Rutherford and St. Helena appellations, a few miles south of Howell Mountain, and a mile north of Pritchard Hill. Here at the confluence of these appellations, we tend twenty-three acres of vineyards planted in the hidden valleys and on the gentler hillsides of the Vaca Mountains."

2021 Snowden Cabernet Sauvignon `the Ranch`, Napa Valley, California $70.99
The crop was small in 2021, with yields off by almost 50%, fewer, smaller clusters and little berries -- but the unusually high skin-to-juice ratio gave us bold with a classic finish.  Winemaker Diana Seysses remarks on the density of the '21 Ranch Cabernet, with aromas of crushed black cherries, brambles and plum set off by the velvet tannins and acid structure which so typical of our site.  A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, the wine was fermented by wild, native yeasts, aged 19 months in French oak barrels and bottled in the spring of 2023.  9,450 bottles were produced.

2020 Snowden `dum Spiro Spero` Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California $99.99
“Dum Spiro Spero” – while I breath I hope – is the Snowden family motto which has appeared on every label and every cork since we began producing our own wines 30 years ago.  For our 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, we are using it to mark a unique cuvée from a unique growing year, when winemaker Diana Snowden Seysses combined the Cabernet Sauvignon which would normally have gone into our Brothers and Los Ricos vineyard designates with Cabernet Franc from our Melchior Kemper block.  Diana loved the small clusters and small berries of 2020, which resulted in “spectacular concentration.  The bouquet is lifted with violets and beeswax.  Plum, black cherry, and Bramble lie beneath. On the palate, the wine boasts layers of juicy dark fruit – it is dense and hedonistic.”  Fermented with wild, native yeasts, aged 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% new, and bottled unfined

2022 Snowden Sauvignon Blanc `sunninghill`, Napa Valley, California $35.99
At 800 feet of elevation, our single-acre Sunninghill block lies the eastern end of the ranch, just as it drops away to Lake Hennessey, with Pritchard Hill rising from the opposite bank.  The block has the shallowest, sandiest, thinnest soils of all our vineyards.  The resulting wines have developed a reputation for their cut, length, and mineral texture.  Winemaker Dianna Seysses makes the wine primarily for the family, meaning the way we like it – an unapologetic, classic, Sauvignon Blanc.  The fruit was picked by hand on August 27, 2022, pressed straight to neutral oak and stainless steel barrels, barrel fermented to dryness by wild, native yeasts, aged on the lees for six months in neutral oak and stainless steel barrels (without malolactic fermentation)

2021 Snowden Cabernet Sauvignon Brothers Vineyard, Napa Valley, California $111.99
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Brothers Vineyard is classic in style and elegant in balance.  Winemaker Diana Snowden Seysses likes its “energy and cut” featuring notes of “plums, black cherries, blood orange, and graphite."  On the heels of with a winter of very low rainfall, the growing season was otherwise ideal, with the moderate, even temperatures historically typifying the Napa Valley growing season.  The dry year featured smaller clusters and berries, so a higher skin to juice ratio, resulting in increased richness – but also an ideal balance among the fruit, tannins, and other acids.  The Cabernet Sauvignon was harvested on September 12 and blended with 1% Petit Verdot

2022 Snowden Rose Of Merlot , Napa Valley California $36.99
A small-lot family wine from our two acre “Lost Vineyard” block, the 2022 Merlot rosé is produced from grapes harvested in late August -- when the sugars were lower and the acids lively -- creating a pale rosé that’s perfect for the coming warm evenings.  Made entirely of Merlot, the fruit was hand picked, pressed straight to stainless steel barrels, fermented dry, and bottled in May of 2023.  1,284 bottles were produced, closed with Saranex-lined screw caps to ensure maximum freshness.
