NV Wine Dudes Skin Contact Pet Nat, Stajerska, Slovenia $20.99
Blend: 100% Riesling
Two wine dudes sipping wine with the ocean between them came up with the idea to make an awesome easy drinking skin contact pet-nat.
Delicate orange zest and cinnamon flavors combined with tropical fruits slowly move into the nutty, yeasty flavors to a round and deep finish. Rich and creamy texture as a result of skin contact and malolactic fermentation with wild bubbles on top of that make a perfect combination to pair with wild trout tartare, foie gras with fig jam, and of course, hard cheeses.
2022 Elicio Vermentino, Mediterranee, France $22.99
Made by Xavier Logette, this is one of the purest expressions of Vermentino you’ll find. The strikingly clear pale-yellow color builds anticipation for the fulsome saline, herbal, citrus, and tropical fruit nose. Those same flavors explode on the full-bodied palate as fine details such as olive oil, garrigue, and juicy fruit flavors emerge to fill out this refreshing wine with a pleasant acidity and a persistent salty tang. One of our best all-occasion wines, it performs especially well with raw shellfish, Mediterranean-style seafood dishes, pungent Southeast Asian dishes, and shell beans.
2022 Mas des Etoiles "Petit Etoile", Cahors, France $21.99
With an intense nose of ripe, juicy red and dark fruits, and a touch of freshly dug earth, ecologically conscious Arnaud Bladinières and his 30-year-old Malbec vines take Cahors into the present day while preserving its classic roots. The round, very fruity palate has a solid structure but very soft, wellintegrated tannins from a year and a half worth of aging.
2020 Domaine de Chateaumar Chateauneuf-du-Pape Secret de Nos Vignes, Rhone Valley, France $47.99
Blend: 70% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre
Aging: 8 months in French oak demi-muids, then 4 more months in concrete tanks
This more traditionally-styled Châteauneuf-du-Pape features pronounced fruit and spice aromas with hints of smoke, anise, and earth. The palate is rich with dark berry, roasted plum, hints of wild herbs, and dark chocolate. The finish is redolent with resurgent herbs, plum, and anise, incorporating old leather, dried violets, and dry-cured olives as it lingers. Drinks beautifully now or can cellar up to 5-8 years. Very limited production.
2022 Domaine Marion Pral Morgon Les Charmes, Beaujolais, France $$25.99
Blend: 100% Gamay
Aging: 6 to 8 months in older French demi-muid barrels
Beaujolais’s most admired and longest-lived Cru is an optimal way to showcase the caliber of winemaking at Domaine Marion Pral. Les Charmes shows why it’s one of Morgon’s top vineyard sites as rich berries mesh harmoniously with a firm tannic streak and layers of brown spice and dried rose petal that unfurl seductively as the wine relaxes into a plush, weighty finish. A strong line of acidity keeps everything lively enough to wash down some charcuterie, rotisserie chicken, creamy mushroom pasta, or Thai curries with a little heat to them. 500 cases produced.
2023 Gonc Anna Rose, Stakerska, Slovenia $17.99
Peter Gönc has been making wines from his family’s estate in the oldest town in Slovenia, Ptuj. He named this bottle after his grandmother, Ann —which makes sense since half of this bottle is made up of the grape Žametna Črnina, an indigenous vine that dates back some 400 years. With cuts of Pinot Noir, Grigio and Blaufränkisch, you’ll undoubtedly taste the familiar style of rosé, but with a decidedly Slovakian mineraly snappiness.
Anna Rosé is made of 50% Zametna Crnina, 20% Pinot Noir, 20% Pinot Grigio and 10% Blaufränkisch from vines between 20-55 years old, all low yielding and pruned to a single guyot at an elevation of 820-1300 feet. Aged 3 months on fine lees.
Nose: Wild berries, strawberries, melon, and peaches conspiring to take over the orchard
Palate: The nice sting of a slap bracelet wrapped around your tongue with bright fruit and a refreshing mineral zap
