Wine Tasting with Porto Vino Imports
Presented by Robert Gunn of Pinnacle Imports

For almost two decades, we’ve been traveling Italy’s backroads to create a portfolio of compelling wines that both excites us, and expresses unique areas and growers. In 2020, with the same care and attention to detail, we added a small portfolio of German and Austrian wines.

NV Cantina Ostro Pino Nero Rose Spumante, Italy $15.99
Made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown on Friuli’s peerless, rocky terroir — lots of spice and silk and tons of fun, too. Ideal as an aperitif or with regional salumi (a must-have with fried seafood!)

2020 Seckinger "R" Riesling Pur, Pfalz, Germany $32.99
Riesling without any make-up and with hardly any fruit, which is not only a delight for purists with its juicy texture.

2020 Seckinger "R" (Pinot Gris) Grauburgunder V0n Kakstein, Pfalz, Germany $22.99
Maximum of 72 hours maceration on the skins. Spontaneous free run juice fermentation in large oak 500L Fuder casks, without temperaturecontrol; élevage for 11 months. No filtration and gravity natural decant.

2020 Colombera & Garella "Coste della Sesia" Rosso, Cascina Cottonano, Italy $25.99
Here’s a Nebbiolo blend etched by an extinct volcanic terroir of yellow porphyritic sand. 300 million years ago, a volcano created the raw material for the Coste della Sesia DOC and eight other geographically complex appellations, collectively known as Alto Piemonte. The addition of the varieties Croatina and Vespolina add resonance and spice to the wonder that is Nebbiolo, while the volcanic soils and more northerly latitude give wines of a particular elegance, perfume, and refreshment compared with the more powerful Nebbioli from Barolo and Barbaresco to the south.

2019 I Custodi Etna Rosso "Pistus", Sicily, Italy $32.99
Fresh and pure, volcanic spicy, good with a slight chill, and also good not with a slight chill! I Custodi’s cellar master is long-time Etna guru Salvo Foti, and his touch is one of a bianchista (white wine lover) prizing elegance, tension, and keeping the pristine volcanic spice found in these wines.

2021 Mortellito "Calaniuru" Rosso, Sicily, Italy $25.99
In the corner of Sicily that lies at the same latitudes as North Africa’s arid desert climate. Its vineyards are a few kilometers from the coast, with grooves of ancient olive and almonds trees breaking the wind off the sea. Abandoned and still working fishing ports dot the landscape. Owner Dario Serrentino has always enjoyed the contrasts of this coastal growing area, which he calls ‘a desert next to the beach.’ Over the years, lucky for us, he’s learned to coax extremely elegant wines from this receding coast of limestone, which, he says, is ‘the magic to produce wines with tension, freshness, and complex salinity.

2021 Vignetti Massa "Terra" Rosso, Piedmont, Italy $16.99
This is his all cement Barbera that is a fun and funky daily drinker, and a great introduction into the reds of Vigneti Massa. People from all over Italy come to fill up their glass jugs (damigiana) from his cavernous cement tanks he has in his cellar.
