The Line-Up

2019 Fermina White, Valencia, Spain $17.99
This wine boast a brilliant, pale-straw color with aromas of apple and citrus fruits on the nose. On the palate, the wine has a fresh liveliness which is refreshing and fruity with a clean finish.
Produced from selected organically grown Macabeo and Airén grapes using classical winemaking techniques, made from a selection of grapes from the best vineyards. The winemaking is with indigenous yeast only, and the use of sulfites is minimal (less than 50mg/l).
La Bodega de Pinoso makes the Fermina wines for us. They started producing wines from organic grapes in 1997, being one of the pioneer wineries in the region to do so.

2019 Milan Nestarec "Forks & Knives" White (Skin Contact), Moravia, Czech Republic $32.99
Exciting scent of sesame and tobacco, curry, yeast dough, flint and lemon tea. Then it tastes just as racy and ends with a sexy bitterness. Knives and forks out! Milan Nestarec's “Table Wine” hence the name Forks and Knives.   Gruner Veltliner, Neuburger, Sauvignon, Pálava and Riesling, with just a tiny bit of skin contact. It's just as fun as always, but with extra energy and depth. Aged in stainless steel tanks and big neutral barrels of 600 and 3000 liters. All bottled under crown caps to keep all that energy in, and once again in clear bottles because, jeez, look at those colors! No sulfur added, no fining, no filtration. The normal way.
Milan Nestarec is one of the new wild young winemakers from Europe and makes fantastic wines that reflect the Moravia region.  Milan works biodynamically with respect for nature, but is not certified because he does not believe in certificates.

2020 Domaine Rimbert "Le Petit Cochon" Rosé, Lanquedoc-Roussillon, France $19.99
This rosé is vibrant pink in the glass. Deep scents of ultra-ripe crushed red cherries, a note of guava paste, overripe fig flesh and a pretty, yet smoky note of sweet herbs. Blood Orange infused red berry flavors dominate the palate and are set-off by the wines generous minerality.
The “Tan Little Pig” is made from grapes harvested at their maximum ripeness and immediately destemmed. They are gently crushed and the juice is fermented with natural yeast. The skins are removed from the vats 36 hours after pressing, lending this rosé its beautifully intense pink color. The wine rests in stainless steel in a cellar that is half-buried into the earth so that the temperature of the winery is naturally regulated. It undergoes a light filtering when bottled on site.
The wines Jean-Marie Rimbert crafts are a passionate testament to this region’s multi-dimensionality and ever-expanding potential.

2019 Milan Nestarec "Forks & Knives" Red, Moravia, Czech Republic $32.99
Milan Nestarec has quickly become the star winemaker of the Czech Republic. His wines display so much life, vitality, and originality that they have become quite sought after. The Forks and Knives is an energetic red blend of Pinot Noir with smaller amounts of Blaufrankisch, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. It is carbonic and quite the easy gulpable, chillable red. It is all-natural, organic and bottled unfiltered with no sulftes added.

2020 Deux Anes "Premiers Pas" Rouge, Corbieres, France $20.99
Carignan/Grenache.  Dark ruby in the glass with shimmering purple highlights. Beautiful scents of red currant, ultra-ripe pomegranate flesh, crushed plums, and warm pear skins. The palate delivers loads of red & black fruit flavors backed by a pretty dusting of mineral-infused garrigue. This wine is an outstanding value. Food pairing: works with a wide variety of red and white meats right off the grill, aged sheep’s and goat’s milk cheeses and spicy sausages.

“Deux anes” means “two donkeys”, after the real animals that live among the vines and help to prune and naturally fertilize them. (Now there’s actually three: Riquita, Pinocchio, and their mum Lolita)
The vineyard overlooks the Mediterranean sea and hence enjoys the perfect ratio of sun, fresh marine air and benefactory wind. The plot was a love-at-first-sight for Magali, and a great discovery, with up to 75-year-old vines in healthy condition.

2020 Domaine Rimbert "Cousin Oscar" Cinsault, Lanquedoc, France $20.99
Cousin Oscar is a fun, summer, thirst-quenching red Jean-Marie made for fun. Its label is a combination of designs Jean-Marie put together from 50’s magazines. He named the wine after his girlfriend’s cousin (Oscar) who is apparently irresistable to the ladies.

Domaine Rimbert has 20 hectares spread amongst 40 diverse parcels each with different soil compositions & expositions. The village of Berlou (where Jean-Marie has his Chai) has the highest elevation in all of the St. Chinian AOC & is the only place in the region that possesses Schist rich soils. From the beginning, his objective was to cultivate vineyards with the utmost respect for the environment & his wines reflect all of the natural beauty, depth & flavor from those vines. The wines Jean-Marie crafts are a passionate testament to this region's multidimensional & ever-expanding potential.

2019 Clos Siguier "Clos Siguier" Rouge, Cahors, France $20.99
A Malbec from the Cahors region of southwest France. It's fruit-driven but never guilty of excessive extraction, showing surprising aromas of blackcurrant fruit.  Wine made from organically or biodynamically grown grapes with minimal intervention avoiding the use of chemicals, additives and technology.
If you haven't given French Malbec (Côt, in French) a try, I urge you to do so. This Clos Siguier Cahors is a great place to start. It's very approachable, with rich fruit (although not over-extracted) and herbal notes. Plum, cherry, and blackberry, first hinted at on the nose, burst forth with enthusiasm on the palate, accompanied by hints of black tea. Additionally, the tannins are quite smooth, making this an all around very quaffable wine (and a great value too!).
Imagine a dream country made of small, winding roads going through an untouched landscape of medieval villages atop of hills, castles and fortified farms, this is the area of Cahors.  Gilles Bley's Clos Siguier sits in the middle of the wine appellation, south of the beautifully-winding Lot river, and his wines really stand out, not only for its civilized tannins but for its low alcohol.
