The Line-Up
2021 Stolpman Vineyards "Love You Bunches" Rose, Central Coast, California $17.99
Precise and popping with bright energy, 2021 Love you Bunches Rose immediately wins you over in everything you want out of a scrumptious rose. Strawberry married with cool, firm peach. Breezy lemon-lime and lifting mint combine effortlessly through the light and playful palate. Smooth, with just a hint of refreshing tang as the curtain closes leaving you wanting more.
2021 Stolpman "Combe" Trousseau, Ballard Canyon, California $27.99
Pete Stolpman and Rajat Parr’s Esoteric Partnership “Combe” means a “small sheltered valley within a vineyard” in French.
Inviting lavender and milky earl grey tea ride a rhubarb bridge over surging ruby red grapefruit. All the while, Combe Trousseau’s steadfast savory undertone - dried herbs and soil – gives a layer of seriousness. Bursting firm cherries and a bright sun-kissed playful mouthfeel carry through the crusading citrus undercarriage before being washed over in the crunchy, high-acid finish.
2021 Stolpman "Crunchie Roastie" Syrah/Viognier, Santa Barbara County, California $24.99
A popping, lively, super-fresh nose and palate combines red fruits and firm boysenberry with a thick coat of riper yumminess. Rolling along with the fruit are fat green Castelvetrano olives giving girth around a crackling lightning-bolt crunchiness. The finish turns ultra fine with tannins not coming into play, but instead a smooth, succulent dryness made playfully romantic by lingering red fruits still singing a high note.
We pick Syrah early while still “crunchy”, with high acidity and low potential alcohol. Then, we utilize whole-grape, un-crushed carbonic fermentation so as not to extract coarse, under-ripe tannin – leaving the wine feathery and chill-able. To ensure a pure, luscious fruit profile we utilized the age-old Cote Rotie “Roasted Slope” method of co-fermenting a small percentage of Viognier that heaps on pretty floral aromatics to the darker, brooding Syrah profile.
2021 Stolpman Vineyards "G.D.G." Gamay Noir, Santa Barbara County , California $34.99
Lush, wild & brambly dark fruits touched up with higher toned cranberry. In the mouth a subtle pleasurable fleshiness lies wedged in between piercing red fruit on top and the bold acid-driven backbone below.
As one of the newer members of the Stolpman Syrah So Fresh Family- GDG Gamay comes with a label hand-written in Ruben’s beautiful penmanship. When Tom Stolpman arrived at Villa Angeli one Friday afternoon in early 2016 he noticed some re-plantings across the L’Avion runway in Block 6. He asked me what we had planted and I answered, “oh, that’s the new Gamay!”
“You Planted GOD D#MN GAMAY?”
“Well, at least we have a name for it now!”
2021 Stolpman Vineyards "La Cuadrilla", Ballard Canyon, California $21.99
2021 Cuadrilla opens up with dark ripe plum highlighted with bright fresh red berries. Deep and supple with fine chalky tannins already married with a smooth, polished texture. An alluring otherness of wet stones, mint, and mocha prevail from the nose through the mouth captivating the senses beyond just the magnificently pleasurable profile.
The profits are returned to the crew members, divided by seniority, in the form of both a year-end bonus as well as weekly bonuses on each paycheck. The big year-end bonus allows the crew members a chance to add to their savings and overall cushion, while the weekly bonus aims to increase the quality of everyday life for La Cuadrilla and their families.
2020 Stolpman Vineyards Estate Syrah, Ballard Canyon, California $30.99
In the glass, the 2020 Estate Grown Syrah possesses a deep black center with a bright red rim. On the nose, boysenberry fruit sits above black olives. Fine tannin melded into the smooth flesh carries into the finish already married with bright red acidity. Just a hint of Syrah wildness adds nuance to the beautiful opaque wall of fruit.
