2020 Atalier by Raul Perez "A Cruz das Animas" Albarino, Rias Biaxas, Spain $31.99

It leaps out of the glass with aromas of oyster shell and granite, and follows through with a palate rich in yellow and green fruits with a powerful surge of acidity.

Critical Acclaim

D94Decanter  Exporting his talent further to the west of his homeland in Bierzo, Raúl Pérez’s take on Rías Baixas Albariño is electrifying, with a turbo-charge of bracing salty-citrus acidity leavened by the depth of mouthfilling yellow plum. Galician Chablis.

RP94Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2020 Atalier comes from the A Cruz das Ánimas vineyard in Dena, in the town center. It matured in 5,000-liter oak foudres, where the wine matured for seven months. It has the spark and liveliness of 2020, a transparent, pure and defined Albariño with good acidity and a salty, very tasty finish. This transcends its price point.

WS91Wine Spectator

A salty white, creamy and fresh, with a finely woven mix of Asian pear, preserved lemon, oyster shell and light herbs. Long and minerally on the well-cut finish.

2020 Bodegas y Vinedos Raul Perez Bierzo Bianco, Galicia, Spain $28.99

The Godello is from three sites in the village of Valtuille de Abajo, though 90% of the fruit in this vintage actually comes from one north-facing site. The ultimate focus here is on preserving acidity, as Godello can get blowsy and even a little sloppy if overripened. So this is picked on the knife edge of ripeness, and as such the resulting wine only reaches about 11.8% alcohol. The wine ferments and ages in a combination of 2500-liter foudres and old 300-liter barrels.

2020 Bodegas y Vinedos Raul Perez "Ultreia St Jacques" Bierzo Tinto, Galicia, Spain $22.99

Mostly Mencía with Bastardo (Trousseau), Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet)

Elaboration: 80% whole cluster fermentation in large oak vats. Macerations of between two and five months. Aging in various vessels: 225L, 500L, foudre and cement. Bottled without fining or filtration.

2020 Bodegas y Vinedos Raul Perez "Encinas" Bierzo Tinto, Galicia, Spain $35.99

Antoine Graillot, son of the star of Crozes Hermitage: Alain Graillot, has recently launched a project with one of the greatest Spanish viticulturists: Raúl Pérez. This vintage presents a bright body that reveals a very seductive deep cherry tone. The nose is impressive. We find notes similar to Cabernet Franc when it is reduced (to air for at least 1 hour before tasting) wrapped in a box of sweet spices, black fruits and very airy florals. Such aromatic purity is rare for a 100% Mencía and it is here that Antoine and Raúl clearly differ. On the palate, the pulp is dense and juicy. The palate is fine and offers spicy and cherry flavors to finish with an impressive mineral persistence.

2020 Bodegas Riojanes Pregon Verdejo, Rueda, Spain $10.99

This light yellow wine has a bouquet of white peach and grapefruit. It is bright on impact, with flavors of lemon-lime, nectarine and guava and a lemon curd finish. MIKE DESIMONE

2020 Bodegas Riojanes "Canchales" Joven, Rioja, Spain $10.99

Cherry-red with violet hues, brilliant. Fragant primary aromas. Fresh, fruity, varietal. Smooth and balanced in the mouth. Slight tannins. Wide, long retronasal sensations with elegant fruity notes.

2019 Mary Taylor Castilla Y Leon  (Gonzalez Mittelbrun), Spain $13.99

After years of creating Leon´s benchmark, winemaker Pedro Mittelbrunn threw caution to the wind to follow his dream to help revive Leon´s local grapes, Prieto Picudo and Albarin, gaining him the name of Pedro Prieto Picudo.

He convinced the region´s best farmers to partner with him in the winery in addition to buying up specific plots to re plant with Albarin, the region´s white varietal and Prieto Picudo, the region´s big flavoured superstar red varietal. This relatively new project is most definitely up and coming and offers the world of wine something quite different.

This brave pioneer of modern Prieto Picudo, is the only producer in the world to produce certified organic Prieto Picudo and Albarin. The winery prides itself on being a leading light in sustainable wineries and has implemented several energy and water saving techniques.

Well balanced vintage. Beautiful red color. Ripe and fresh red fruit aromas. Fresh and powerful palate with a lingering finish. Easy to drink now.

2017 Frontaura Dominio De Valdelacasa Cosecha, Toro, Spain $25.99

Tempranillo.  Despite being a grower since 1996, Camino Pardo’s big leap offaith came in 2008 when Bodega Frontaura began selling its own brand of wines. Her wines champion her vineyards - sustainable, traditionally farmed, hand harvested, native yeasts, and an immense attention to detail.

Cherry red color with violet rim. The nose speaks of forest, of black fruit, mint and tobacco, of cloves and coconut, of red soil and ripe grapes. The mouth is welcoming and velvety, full of freshness and controlled intensity.
