Hugel Day Wine Tasting
Le Petit Bijou
Saturday, November 4th
2pm - 4pm, $20
With Special Guest, Phil Oreh of Alabama Crown

In 1639, the Hugel family settled in the picturesque little town of Riquewihr, in Alsace, and have always 100% retained the character of a family business. It is currently managed by the 13th generations of the family, in an unbroken line.  Hugel wines, with their widely recognized yellow labels, express the pure character of each grape variety and specific terroir, with no need for added wood or sweetening.

2021 Famille Hugel Gentil Blanc "Hugel", Alsace, France $17.99
Produced exclusively from hand harvested grapes in predominantly clay and limestone vineyards, from a dozen of the most favored localities in and around Riquewihr. Gentil "Hugel" allies the suave, spicy flavour of Gewurztraminer, the body of Pinot Gris, the finesse of Riesling, the grapiness of Muscat and the refreshing character of both Pinot Blanc and Sylvaner.

2018 Famille Hugel Classic Gewürztraminer, Alsace, France $27.99
The spice of Alsace and one of Famille Hugel's signature wines. It is both aromatic and extroverted through its floral and spicy notes. Gewurztraminer is an invitation to accompany a variety of spicy Asian dishes as well as smoked salmon and strong cheeses.
Originally from northern Italy, this is the emblematic grape of our region due to its slow maturation with cool nights giving its full varietal expression. Dry but intensely aromatic.

2020 Famille Hugel Pinot Blanc, Alsace, France $18.99
Age of vines: 30 years old
It is now the most planted varietal in Alsace. Delicate, subtle and well built, it makes an excellent aperitif because, although nicely rounded, it is also refreshing. The perfect all-purpose dry white wine, it goes well with country buffets, seafood and white meats.
It is the most approachable wine of Alsace and also the most consistent year in year out. Not far in style from an unoaked Chardonnay such as a Macon or Chablis.

2020 Famille Hugel Pinot Gris Classic "Hugel", Alsace, France $27.99
Pinot Gris truly dry and gastronomic which reveals itself at the table! Rich and rounded, although still dry, it is ideal with terrines, white meats and fish in sauce. Of all the Alsace varieties, Pinot Gris has the greatest ageing potential.
This wine has a scintillating youthful colour with bright and intense shades of pale green, pistachio, lime tree and primrose yellows. Dense and full legs.  It has an aromatic-flavoured yet discreet nose that is open expressive, direct and very well-stated, smooth and tender with the pleasant freshness of fresh ripe grapes.  The fruitiness of yellow peach, golden apples, Mirabelle, liquorice, cherry and acacia blossom.  On the palate it has a suave, smooth, light, full-fruited feel with a nicely structured and flavoursome balance and pleasantly fresh and lively after-taste which gives it a certain drive and character.
This Pinot Gris has remarkable character leaving a classical and dry presence behind it.

2021 Famille Hugel Classic Riesling, Alsace, France $25.99
Age of vines: 28 years old
This is the Famille Hugel signature wine. This dry Riesling stands out for its finesse and frankness and is the ideal partner to fish and seafood thanks to its wonderful balance and elegance.  Riesling is the Pinot Noir of white wines! It is our most demanding variety as it is also the latest ripening. Dry and elegant, it expresses itself best on our steepest slopes with the most complex minerality.

2019 Famille Hugel Classic Pinot Noir, Alsace, France $27.99
Age of vines: 23 years old
Made from the famous grape variety of Burgundy, this agreeable red wine presents a distinctive Alsace character. Supple, with intense fruit, it can be drunk with charcuterie, red meat and cheese.
Harvested in the first days of harvest, exclusively by hand, from clay and limestone vineyards in a dozen of the most favoured localities in and around Riquewihr. A cool and long growing season give this unique dry wine great finesse and balanced intensity.
