NV Herve Brisson `les Aulnes` Extra Brut, Champagne, France $56.99
“Recommended by Grower Champagne sensation Vincent Couche, Hervé Brisson is another micro-producer of ultra-pure, resolutely natural sparklers. Few people have laid eyes on this cuvée!” David Lynch, Sommelier & Editorial Director
Designated Extra-Brut, the wine is nevertheless textured and readily identifiable as Chardonnay, with a real “Burgundy with bubbles” quality: Notes of yellow apple, lemon pith, cream, brioche dough, dried white flowers, and a pile of crushed rocks rise from the glass and coat the palate in luxurious style. The purity of fruit is just astounding, making it a great candidate for drinking in a larger, non-flute stem: don’t be afraid to swirl it and let the carbonation dissipate, as it only improves the experience!
NV Blard & Fils Cremant De Savoie `brut Alpin`, France $38.99
Aromatic, light, acacia aromas, white flowers aromas, almond aromas, peach aromas, bergamot aromas, gunflint aromas. Acacia overtones, hawthorn blossom overtones.
Assemblage Jacquère /Chardonnay.
Jean-Noël and Thomas Blard (father and son) have been taking their five-generation family domain to an upswing in the last twenty years, while also moving to organic and natural practices. They are making fantastic wines in the Apremont region in Savoie. They have been helping, along with a few other winemakers in Savoie, to really turn Savoie into the super interesting wine region that it is now.
2021 Domaine Landron-Chartier `Melon B`, Loire Valley, France $21.99
"Melon B" stands for Melon de Bourgogne, the deliciously briny and mineral grape variety that comprises this certified organic bottling from Muscadet in France's Loire Valley. Concentrated and layered, this delicious Muscadet definitely resembles its label, with the briny, citrusy notes that make us want a half-dozen oysters on the half shell. No added sulphur.
Third-generation winemaker Bernard had been working with his brother Jo in the heart of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine area, before moving in 2002 to the lesser-known and therefore cheaper area of Ancenis, (to the North-East of Nantes). Organic conversion began in 2010.
2020 Blard & Fils Abymes "Micraster", Savoie, France $21.99
100% Jacquère. The Nose is a restrained display of grass, spring water, seashells, lemon pith, and a floral, yellow cherry. The palate has a foundation of pleasant apricot, salt, green herbs, and stems. Lovely acidity, a touch of tannin under the tongue. Extremely drinkable, but don't let that fool you. Like the best Savoie whites, if you engage with this bottle, you'll find a lot going on under its cloak of endearing simplicity. - David Hatzopoulos
2021 Clos Roussely Touraine L`Escale, Loire Valley, France $16.99
A juicy, fresh, and thirst-quenching Sauvignon, this is essentially a Sancerre style without the price tag. Coming from Touraine, this Sauv. ticks all the boxes: fleshy stone fruit, bright acidity, and minerality.
2022 Domaine Hudelot Bourgogne Aligote, Burgundy, France $21.99
