2021 K Pilota Getariako Txakolina, Spain $24.99
100% Hondarrabi Zuri;
Estate vineyards near the Basque village of Aia, overlooking the Cantabrian seaports of Zarautz and Orio, D.O. Getariako Txakolina.
Bright, crystal clear, with pale greenish yellow and lemony sparkle. Intense clear notes of fruit and minerals, with subtle hints of white flowers and fruits like apple and winter pear. Its great mouthfeel makes it a round, satiny wine without losing the cool Atlantic character found in classic txakolinas.
Ideal for snacks and light meals: tapas, sushi, seafood, fish and white meats.
2022 Burgans Albarino, Rias Biaxes, Spain $19.99
Madeline Triffon MS - ”Textbook Albarino—rich and floral scented, quite dry with mouth filling orchard fruit flavors (think golden apples and dried apricots). If dry Riesling and Gruner Veltkiner had a baby….From a fine cooperative winery in Spain’s far northwest, in the cool, rainy Val do Saines region, right up against the Atlantic."
2020 Rafael Palacios Louro Godello, Spain $29.99
Since starting his own winery in 2004, Rafael Palacios has earned a reputation as one of Spain’s preeminent white wine artisans. His over 30 parcels of godello, spread over nearly 20 hectares in Valdeorras, Galicia has become the birthplace of many of Spain’s most interesting white wines.
This exquisite Louro godello is a pale straw in color and boasts intense aromas of pomelo, tangerine, and lemon, with wild alpine flowers and grasses and deeply rooted hints of fennel and flinty nuances. On the palate, this weighty, plush, and round wine is charged by a taut, saline minerality and an undercurrent of almost electric vivacity. Lovers of lustrous White Burgundy, or CdP Blanc, Hermitage Blanc, and the like will be astonished and amazed by this pleasingly complex and nuanced wine.
2019 Losado Vinos de Finca El Pajaro Rojo Mencia, Bierzo, Spain $22.99
40 – 60 year vines, 100% Mencía
Aiming to make elegant wine in Bierzo, Losada Vinos de Finca sought out old Bierzo vineyards traditionally planted on clay soils.
Fine, fresh, fruity wine. A rich, jammy blackberry essence captivates the front palate, erupting into bright, fresh juicy blackberries and red cherries on the mid-palate with herbaceous notes of sage and cinnamon. The finish is long and silky.
2021 Olivier Riviere Rayos Uva Rioja, Spain $24.99
The very young unoaked red 2021 Rayos Uva looks for fruit-driven aromatics showcasing the approachability of Rioja Baja, where the wines can be juicy and tasty. It was produced with a blend of 40% each Garnacha and Tempranillo and 20% Graciano, quite different from the wines from the past, with 13.5% alcohol and good freshness and balance. It fermented destemmed and was kept in tank until bottling. It's very primary, a little reductive, young, fresh and juicy, with notes of berries and herbs and a light and fresh palate that makes it very pleasant and easy to drink.
2016 Fedellos do Couto Bastarda, Bierzo, Spain $48.99
Wine Advocate 95
Produced with a mixture of Bastarda/Merenzao/Trousseau grapes from two different subzones of Ribeira Sacra Riberas do Sil and Bibei, the 2016 Bastarda is better than any previous vintage. It fermented with full clusters and matured in a combination of used French oak barrels and concrete vats for seven months. It was really singing wen I tasted it, with ethereal notes of rose water, wild herbs and small berries, aromatic, perfumed, elegant and subtle. The palate is as expressive as the nose, with ultra fine tannins and a stony, dry sensation that gives it seriousness and length. This is a stunning expression of the grape. Bravo!
2017 Losado Vinos de Finca Altos Losado, Bierzo, Spain $45.99
An attractively fresh, juicy and spicy, purple-berry and plum nose with plenty of spicy, fragrant and fresh aromas. The palate has an impressively resolved, silky texture and bright, ripe dark-berry flavors. Drink or hold. 93 Points jamessuckling
Vineyard plots, planted mainly on clay soils round Valtuille de Arriba, where grapes for Altos de Losada are produced. The philosophy is to extract to maximum expression from the region’s terroir via the painstaking selection of estates and vineyards. Complexity and elegance are the grassroots of the Losada Vinos de Finca project.
