2021 Statera Chardonnay Pet Nat, Willamette Valley, Oregon $31.99
Statera –Luke Allen Wylde with winemaking partner Meredith Bell
Statera Chardonnay Petillant Naturel is a phenomenal small production pet-nat from Oregon. Bright and fruity, with juicy apple, white floral, and a hint of salinity. All grapes were pressed hard and long, settled overnight, and then fermented in neutral French oak barrels and poly tote. The wine was bottled in December 2021 before primary fermentation was complete (like all pet nats) to capture the naturally occurring CO2 in the bottle. The wine is left un-disgorged, as we hope that some of the lees that give chardonnay much of its character, land in the glass.
2021 Lares Wines "Stellium in Cancer" Riesling Pet Nat, Carlton, Oregon $28.99
Lares is a Solo Project of Luke Allen Wylde.
In ancient Rome, the Lares were minor deities that guarded home, hearth and harvest – so appropriate for a passionate winemaker who is also passionate about fantasy literature and role-playing games! At Statera, Luke and Meredith have a strict Chardonnay-only rule, so Lares is Luke’s platform for experimenting with unusual grapes and unusual techniques. Luke’s making quite a name for himself by pushing the boundaries and making great wine.
One barrel of Riesling was pressed off before the Pinot Gris was added to the press on top of the Riesling skins. The Riesling from Abbey Road Farm was picked and destemmed into a fermenter and left on skins for four days before pressing off and fermenting on its own.
What more could you ask for than a racy pet nat made from 95% Riesling, 5% Pinot Gris, and <1% Apples? This wine is bottled electricity, tension, and so much more.
2021 Lares Wines "Tymora", Carlton, Oregon $28.99
Grape varieties: 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Gamay
Lares Tymora Red Blend combines two of our favorites, Gamay and Pinot Noir. Juicy red fruits, baking spices, and an earthy backbone. A versatile food wine.
2021 Est. Rose Swirl, Carlton, Oregon $31.99
Meredith Bell's solo project, Est
A truly unique rosé, this is a cofermentaion of Pinot noir juice with Sauvignon blanc berries, which is then aged in neutral french oak barrels for ten months. The resulting wine smells of lychee and cherry, with a grapefruit backbone. The wine is both bright and fresh, with nice phenolic tension on the pallet.
Founded in 2014, we at EST believe that wine is made in the vineyard, through meticulous and conscientious farming. All wines come from our four acre vineyard in Clackamas County, in the eastern Willamette Valley. Pinot noir and Sauvignon blanc planted in 1982 on their own roots, grow in deep Jory soil. The low intervention winemaking allows the vineyard to speak through the wine. With nothing added, except for SO2, and nothing taken away, both time and place mark EST wines.
2021 Hundred Suns "Old Eight Cut" Chardonnay, Willamette Valley, Oregon $40.99
Old Eight Cut: A diamond cut dating back to the 1400s using simple tools and few cuts to enhance the natural brilliance of the stone without disguising its true nature.
Grapes were pressed into French oak and fermented with indigenous yeast. Tasting Notes: This wine shows layers of brioche, pear, and lemon bar with delicate richness and tense acidity.
Grant Coulter first worked as assistant winemaker at Hamacher wines and then spent the bulk of 10 years as assistant winemaker and then winemaker at Beaux Freres. "In 2015, we sold our house in Portland, scraped together every penny we had, and moved to a fixer-upper in the the valley so that we could build Hundred Suns. Eventually, Grant moved on from being winemaker at Beaux Freres to overseeing the vineyards and making the wines for Flaneur Wines, and Renée Saint-Amour swapped the classroom for the cellar and running of the day-to-day business. From winemaking, to label design, website building, and even wax dipping bottles by hand, every aspect of this process has our fingerprints on it because it is just the two of us.
2021 Nicolas-Jay Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon $61.99
Nicolas-Jay Estate is a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay venture located in the Dundee Hills region of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Celebrated Burgundian winemaker, JeanNicolas Méo of Domaine Méo-Camuzet, and renowned music and media entrepreneur, Jay Boberg, lend their individual talents and shared dedication to the winery, where traditional French winemaking meets quintessential Oregon terroir.
A beautiful garnet color is the first indication of a dense, concentrated harvest. It’s stunning at first approach with red cherry, black tea and subtle splashes of toasted clove, spices and citrus aromas. The fruit is crunchy and wet at this early stage, but a core of cinnamon spice and light menthol arrive to inter-mingle with these coldpressed red fruit elements as the wine begins to stretch out. Alert acidity on the front-end gives way to granite, medium-weight tannins. It’s round on the palate, but shifts into a compression of red bush fruits, orange citrus and sandalwood that presses for minutes but still finds a way to maintain an elegant canter so typical of this celebrated cuvée.
