NV FUSO + Denny Bini 'SPUMA' Frizzante Emilia, Emilia-Romagna, Italy $18.99
Region: Reggio Emilia < Emilia-Romagna < Italy
Grapes: Lambrusco di Sorbara
Vineyard/Cellar Stats: Certified Organic farming; sandy clay soils; field blend, co-fermented, direct press, aged in fiberglass; no filtering or clarification; 40ppm So2 added at bottling; 12.5% ABV
Denny is one of a very few natural Lambrusco producers who re-ferments in bottle vs. secondary fermentation in autoclave, the more "modern" and industrial way that most is made today.
2022 Fuso “Cala” Bianco (Skin Contact), Sicily, Italy $16.99
This bright, refreshing white wine opens with aromas of ripe, white fruits and a touch of citrus, finishing with laser acidity and soft, salty flavors.
It’s fair to say that the new generation of wine producers on the Balearic’s largest island, Mallorca, is making an impact. Enter Tomeu Llabrés, working in self-described viticultura en miniatura, and his visionary work with the indigenous Montenegro grape at Ca’n Verdura Viticultores. In 2012 he founded his micro-winery in a former auto garage at the center of the ancient village of Binissalem, located in the north-central portion of Mallorca.
2022 Durin Riviera Ligure di Ponente Pigato, Liguria, Italy $25.99
Pigato is considered the “prince” of Ligurian white wines, a coastal grape that is the natural pair with Mediterranean cuisine and fresh seafood. Originally from Greece, the Pigato grape made its way to Liguria in the 1600s, and is believed to be a cousin of the white grape Vermentino. Today it is almost exclusively associated with and cultivated along the Ligurian Riviera on the northwest coast of Italy, not far from the cliffs and wandering paths of Cinque Terre. Think white peaches, honey, wildflowers; citrus, white pepper, fresh almonds, stone fruits, and of course some coastal sea spray on the palate.
2020 Molinetto Gavi, Piedmont, Italy $21.99
100% Cortese
Gavi is one of those classic Italian white wines that always delivers but this one by Molinetto goes the extra step and is precise on the palate. Beautiful lime citrus and a clean mineral drive that makes this a joy to drink. Estate fruit is hand harvested, fermented in stainless steel using wild yeasts and left to age shortly on the lees for extra depth.
The family farms some 15 acres of land in Tassarolo, in the heart of the Gavi zone, and cares for their vines and land sustainably. Soils are a mix of limestone and clay, with rare veins of “terra rossa” or iron-rich, red clay.
Grapes are harvested by hand. Depending on the wine, grapes are either pressed directly or briefly cold macerated; fermentation happens on indigenous yeasts. Wines are aged either in stainless steel tank or French oak barrel. Very little sulfites are added during the winemaking process.
2020 Vadiaperti Greco di Tufo, Campania, Italy $27.99
Aromas of ripe citrus and honey, mint, and a touch of sea salt dominate this medium-bodied, textured, refined Campanian white.
Since the end of the nineteenth century, the Troisi family has championed the wines of Irpina, a historic vine-growing area in northern Campania. Vadiaperti’s high-altitude vineyards and pure volcanic soils combine for southern Italian white wines of impeccable finesse, freshness and character.
2021 Poggio Terra Barbera del Monferrato, Piedmont, Italy 1L $16.99
AROMATICS: Exotic bright blue fruits, raspberries, & black pepper herbal notes. PALATE: Juicy, delicious, easygoing high notes of tart cherry and dark stone fruits drive the palate.
This Barbera is produced by Casa Vinicola Botter and hails from the Monferrato area in Piedmont. The vineyards are situated on hillsides at an elevation of 1000 feet. The grapes used are 100% Barbera, and the farming method is organic (with certification in progress)
